Hi Mama!
So happy that you are planning a maternity session. Pregnancy is a lot of things- beautiful, stressful, emotional, and not to mention overflowing with hormones, but one thing I can vouch for myself is that one day you will miss it. Finding something to wear for your maternity photos can be stressful, but having these images to recognize and celebrate the amazing thing your body is creating is something that you will not regret. Speaking of all the things your body is doing- you might have a tougher time dressing it than you thought! Have no fear, I am here to help. Just call me your pregnancy guru, and lets do this!
Your maternity photos are special, and it is the perfect time to pamper yourself and get dressed up. Pregnancy can feel frumpy with the maternity jeans and sweat pants that barely fit, but your maternity photos are the perfect chance to get dressed up! I recommend wearing a maxi dress or midi dress for your session.

For my style of Maternity Photography, I like my whites, lights and neutrals. These type of colors tend to compliment most skin tones, and they bring out the brightness in my photos. They match most locations and are easy to coordinate.

Different textures and patterns can add some creativity and fun to your photos. I also tend to look for dresses that will add some movement. Shooting maternity sessions at the beach tends to give some beautiful breezes, and a dress that moves with that is amazing!
It is important to consider your season, and go off of this. For example, fall you might choose a sage green or a blue whereas spring/summer you might choose a pink! I would let the time of year dictate your colors rather than the gender of the baby.

Location is crucial! For example, if you are taking photos at a garden or a forest- you would not want to have a green dress. This is because the green of your dress will blend in with your surroundings, and you will not stick out as much.
I actually don’t tend to recommend buying from a maternity dress shop! These dresses are usually tight, and what I am looking for are dresses with extra fabric, that are a bit more flowy! Some of my favorite places to buy dresses include Baltic Born, Free People, VICI, and Morning Lavender.
Lastly, be true to you. If you are not a dress girl- I get it! Throw on some distressed jeans, grab some flowers and we will make some beautiful photos- because the most beautiful thing about these photos are you.
