There is something undeniably poetic about the shoreline—the quiet rhythm of the waves, the softness of the light, the way time seems to slow just enough for you to feel it all. And for expecting mothers, there may be no setting more fitting than the coast to document this fleeting, sacred season of waiting.
Nestled along the edge of the Long Island Sound, Sherwood Island State Park offers a backdrop that feels both expansive and intimate. As Connecticut’s first state park, it spans miles of beach, coastal grasses, marshland, and soft walking paths—each corner offering a different kind of beauty to hold your story.
One of the reasons I’m so drawn to maternity sessions here is the variety. Within a single session, we can move from airy dunes to the shoreline, from quiet grassy paths to the open sky. The landscape never competes with you—it gently frames you.
The beach itself stretches for nearly a mile, giving us space to wander, explore, and let moments unfold naturally.
Your children can run barefoot, your dress can catch the wind, and you can simply be present—without feeling rushed or confined.
If you’ve ever seen the sun set over the water here, you understand why I plan sessions around it whenever possible. The light becomes soft, golden, and almost dreamlike—wrapping around you in a way that feels both romantic and timeless.
It’s during this time that everything slows. The noise fades, the sky softens, and what’s left is connection—your hands on your growing belly, your partner’s quiet glance, the anticipation of the life you’re about to meet.
Golden hour at the beach doesn’t just photograph beautifully—it feels beautiful.
Maternity sessions at Sherwood Island are especially perfect for families with little ones. There’s room to move, explore, and play—whether that means climbing on rocks, running along the shoreline, or snuggling into you between bursts of energy.
Some of the most meaningful images come from these in-between moments—the ones you didn’t plan. A toddler resting their head on your bump. Tiny hands wrapped around yours. The way your family already surrounds this baby with love before they’ve even arrived.

The environment here lends itself to movement and softness. Flowing dresses, light fabrics, and neutral tones photograph beautifully against the muted blues, greens, and sandy textures of the shoreline.
This is not about perfection—it’s about feeling like yourself, elevated. Effortless. Held.
Pregnancy has a way of stretching time and compressing it all at once. The days can feel long, but the season itself passes in a blink. And before you know it, your arms are full and this quiet anticipation becomes a memory.
Maternity sessions aren’t just about documenting a baby on the way—they are about honoring who you are in this moment. The strength, the softness, the transformation.
And there is something deeply meaningful about capturing that against a landscape that has existed long before us and will remain long after—a reminder of just how sacred and fleeting this chapter really is.

One of the most common questions I hear from expecting parents is, “Why are newborn photos so expensive?” It’s a fair question. One of the coolest things about being a parent is getting to watch your child discover their own personal style. It seems like all of a sudden, they go from being content in whatever onesies you pick out to having very strong feelings about the jeans they have to wear for Thanksgiving. If you’re looking […]
