About the St. Vincent’s Birthing Center
St. Vincent’s has been helping patients in Bridgeport and Fairfield County since they were founded by the Daughters of Charity back in 1903. Today, 120 years later, they are still a Catholic hospital with a mission to protect, heal, and serve.
In 2019, they became a part of Hartford Healthcare, joining a comprehensive statewide network of hospitals, urgent care centers, and both general and specialty practices. Now, the patients they serve have even greater access to health services, providers, and choices in managing their healthcare.
Services
St. Vincent’s Family Birthing Center is located on the fifth floor of the hospital. It provides a comfortable environment for families to welcome new babies into the world. Their private, hotel-like suites allow new moms to remain in their rooms throughout labor, delivery, and recovery without moving from place to place.
There are plenty of other benefits to delivering at St. Vincent’s in addition to comfortable suites. Their team of obstetricians, neonatologists, and other maternal and newborn specialists offer research-based approaches to caring for moms and babies. Laboring women can find relief with pain management, such as nitrous oxide and epidurals. Should you need an emergency C-section (or if you’ve planned ahead for one), their sterile operating room is just down the hall.
Once your baby has arrived, regardless of whether you delivered naturally or by C-section, you can practice skin-to-skin bonding right away. Their team of lactation consultants is also standing by to provide you with support and information as you learn to feed and nurture your newborn.
Other postpartum perks include a partnership with Bella Baby Photography, which can help you capture your baby’s first moments with timeless photographs. As an extra special treat, the new mom and her guest will receive a complimentary gourmet dinner before heading home to start a beautiful new life with a brand-new baby.

One of the biggest benefits of delivering at St. Vincent’s Birthing Center is that they are a member of the Pediatric Care Alliance. This collaborative partnership between Connecticut Children’s and Hartford Healthcare offers families extra support in navigating their children’s healthcare from birth to young adulthood. Together, they offer a network of health, social, and emotional support programs that include specialists like neonatologists, pediatric care specialists, and neonatal nurse practitioners.
You always hope your baby is born healthy and strong. Still, if they need a little extra attention and care, it’s always a relief to know that Connecticut Children’s flagship NICU at Hartford Hospital is nearby.
